MICE 2015 – A weekend of coffee emersion
MICE (Melbourne international coffee expo) is the premier coffee get together in the southern hemisphere bringing together roasters, green been farmers, packaging contractors, machine & equipment suppliers and generally all things coffee related.
For a bunch of over caffeinated Sydneysiders such as us, this is an annual pilgrimage that offers the opportunity to learn about new developments in the industry, undertake advanced level training, interact with likeminded café professionals and get to spend a day café hoping
Day one started with Kosta, Taki (aka Dougie) and Joey smashing a double riss pic @ Seven Seeds (Carlton) before making our way to the expo. We undertook the SCAA (Specialty coffee association of America) Filter workshop where we got to play with a bunch of batch brewers, Chemex, Syphons and pour overs. From here we spent the rest of the afternoon watching the Latte Art Nationals and Aus Barista championships (Well Done Sasa Sestic, Ona Coffee Canberra)
Day two was a whirlwind, Journeyman (Chapel st Windsor – Thanks Seb!!!), Market lane roasters (Prahran Markets), Auction rooms (North Melbourne) and Mork (North Melbourne). 12 coffees in 4 hours was all we could take ladies and gents
A tonne of fun, a great learning experience, awesome time spent with the boys and hopefully a few little things that we can introduce to the lime menu in the near future
